Built from scratch · Live app

Dog-Ear, a reading journal I built.

Most of what I show here is websites. Dog-Ear is a full app: accounts, barcode scanning, series tracking, a journal you decorate and a payment flow. I designed it, wrote it and run it myself, so it is the clearest proof of what I can build when a business needs more than a standard storefront.

The app

Six screens, real product.

These are screenshots of the running app with a demo library, the same images used in the store listing. Nothing here is a mockup.

What it does

Built around how readers actually shop and read.

Add books without typing

Scan a barcode and the book lands in the library with its cover, author and series. Rapid Scan adds a whole stack in a minute, and a Goodreads or StoryGraph export brings an existing history across.

Series tracking

See which books in a series are owned, read or missing. The wish list lets someone scan a book in a store to check what they already have.

A journal that feels personal

Reading challenge, A to Z challenge, quotes, notes and decorated pages on a dot grid, with the app’s name, tagline and colors set by the reader.

Free to start, no ads

The free plan covers up to 50 books with scanning, series, journal pages and stats. One upgrade removes the limit. Libraries are private and can be exported or deleted at any time.

Under the hood

More than a website, and still one person.

Dog-Ear is the proof that the same care I put into a client site goes into software.

Brand and interface

A bookish purple and gold identity, a dot grid paper texture and a mobile-first layout designed around a thumb, from the bottom tab bar to the scan button.

Accounts and payments

Sign in, private libraries, a one-time lifetime upgrade through Stripe checkout and a nightly backup of every account.

Installs like an app

It runs in any phone browser, can be added to a home screen, and has an Android version that is currently in Google Play closed testing.

Found by search

A landing page and blog written for the way readers search, with structured data so search and AI answers can describe it correctly.

Dog-Ear is my own product, not client work. I am showing it because it is real, live and in daily use, and because it shows what I can build beyond a storefront.
